Howdy, Strong Fam-Uh-Lee!
As the seasons finally change, we have some new youth happenings being blown in with the cooler weather—including a new and improved Youth Newsletter! Our goal is to help keep you informed on all our youth programs and events as well as provide some meaningful tips and at-home challenges for you and your family. We’ll be sending one your way every two weeks. We hope you enjoy!
Current Youth Happenings
- New Youth Block: For this programming block, we’ll focus on developing our students’ reaction time, pulling strength, and ninja obstacle abilities.
- Strong Thanksgiving Camp: We’ll be hosting a mini camp on November 24th, 25th, and 26th this year—spots are limited,

REACTION TIME
Contrary to popular belief, a person’s ability to react to something isn’t solely based on genetics; it’s an ability that can be improved through practice! We can help students hone this ability by putting them in an environment that provides a specific stimulus that they must react accordingly to. For our students, this means we’ll have plenty of “call-and-react” style games such as ultimate red light green light, steal the bacon, and more!

Tips for a Healthy Heart
As the cold weather starts to blow in, there’s a natural tendency to want to stay inside with a nice, warm beverage and cozy up under some blankets. While taking some time to relax is always important, make sure to set aside some time each day to be active! Staying active this season can include any fun activities that elevate your heart rate for at least 15-20 minutes, including:
- Taking your dog for a walk (or run!) around the neighborhood
- Dancing to your favorite Christmas tunes (you can never go wrong with Mariah Carey)
- Build and complete your own at home obstacle course
- Play a round of “active charades” and act out your favorite sports or dances
- And of course, come visit STRONG for class!
STRONG Kid Challenge
Ruler Drop Reaction Test
For this challenge, all you’ll need is a 12-inch ruler. The person being tested will try to react to the ruler being dropped without warning and catch it as quickly as possible. To do this:
- Have a partner hold the ruler vertically; the person catching will line the bottom of the ruler up between their index finger and thumb.
- Without warning, your partner should drop the ruler. Catch it as quickly as you can!
- Try this with each hand individually for an extra challenge.
The quicker you’re able to catch the ruler, the better! You can also measure your progress by taking note of the measurement where you catch the ruler. For our younger friends, feel free to add extra distance between the hand and the ruler to provide more time to react to the drop.
